5 Stages of Consecration Series
“Lord, please make me like Jesus.”
This is the prayer of Stage 4. Not just a whisper of hope—but a cry of surrender. Because you can’t walk in His footsteps if you’re not willing to walk like Him.
Stage 4 is where consecration becomes costly. Not just uncomfortable—but transformational. It’s where God asks for everything—not to take it from you, but to go deeper with you.
Luke 14:25–27, 33 — The Requirements of Christ
Jesus didn’t soften the command. He said:
“Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”
“Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.”
This is the surrender that changes lives—and changes the world.
The 5 Requirements of Surrender
To walk in Stage 4, we must surrender five areas:
1. People
You can’t love others more than God. Even your children. Even your spouse.
Luke 9:59–60 reminds us: love others but love Him more. When we love others more they become an idol. It blocks the deeper bond of Godly love.
Ask yourself: Who do I run to first—Jesus or someone else?
2. Possessions
You must be willing to give it all away if He asks.
Luke 14:28–30 warns us to count the cost. What are you unwilling to release? If your heart is in your stuff, your hands won’t be free to serve. Give for God’s glory—not for applause.
3. Place
Be willing to go wherever He sends you—across the street or across the world. Jesus modeled this by leaving heaven for Earth.
What stronghold does your current location have on you?
Surrender means mobility. It means trust.
4. Position
Your job isn’t your security—God is. Whether He calls you to lose salary or gain it, the role is His to assign.
We often ask, how will this affect me? But Stage 4 asks, How will this impact others for Christ?
5. Priority
Refocus your time, talents, and treasures.
John 5:30 shows Jesus modeling obedience. This is pruning. It’s painful, values clarifying, and lifestyle-altering.
How often do you use your gifts for God? How much time do you serve others?
The Cycle of Surrender
Stage 4 isn’t a one-time event. It’s a continual surrender with every new life moment/event you have. Life will tempt you back into Stage 2—self, but each time you return, you go deeper. Each surrender aligns your desires with His.
The Call to Change the World
Stage 4 believers are the ones who change the world—because they do it for Christ, not themselves. This is the Great Commission:
“Go and make disciples… baptize them… teach them…” (Matthew 28:19–20)
It’s not easy. It takes years. It takes tears. But it’s worth it.
This is the stage where you pray: “Lord, make me like Jesus.”

Because when you surrender all, He can move more than you ever imagined.
