Go FISH!!

Feeling Stuck or Uninspired at Work?

Do you ever feel like your job is just… boring? Or that you just can’t find the energy to get excited about going in? Maybe the workplace vibe feels a little off, and it’s starting to weigh you down. If you’ve answered yes to any of these, or if you just want to boost your own attitude and morale, I have something special for you: FISH!

At first glance, the book might seem like just another work-related read, but trust me, it’s so much more than that. The concept is simple, yet powerful: it’s all about a fish market where employees turn what most would see as mundane work into something full of joy, engagement, and connection. What stands out isn’t just the work itself—it’s the attitude and actions that truly make the difference.

There are four core practices from FISH! that I encourage you to try, not only for yourself but as a way to inspire others too. These practices are small shifts that can transform your mindset and, over time, uplift the whole team.

1. Choose Your Attitude

The work itself might not always be in your control, but your attitude? That’s always in your hands. No matter what’s going on around you, you get to decide how you show up. Life can be tough, and people can be challenging, but how you choose to respond makes all the difference.

You can either be the person who sees the silver lining and spreads positivity, or the one who focuses on the negative and drains the energy. Yes, sometimes things suck—but it’s how we handle those moments that really matters. So, today, I challenge you to ask yourself: How do you want to show up? What energy do you want to bring into the room?

2. Play

Yes, you read that right. Play! You might be thinking, “But I have deadlines, and things are serious…” And I get it, I really do. But play doesn’t mean slacking off; it means finding joy in what you do and creating a space where laughter and creativity can thrive.

Get to know your coworkers, share a joke, challenge each other in fun ways. When you allow yourself to play, work doesn’t feel like work—it feels like an opportunity to connect, to create, and to energize. It’s amazing how a little playfulness can recharge you and give you that extra push when things get tough.

3. Make Their Day

Here’s the secret: It’s not about you. When we focus too much on ourselves, we miss out on opportunities to lift others up. Think back to a time when someone made your day. It wasn’t the big, grand gestures, was it? It was likely a smile, a kind word, a simple gesture that showed you mattered to them.

Making someone’s day doesn’t require grand actions—it can be as small as a thoughtful compliment or even just a moment of listening. And the beauty of it? When you make someone else feel seen and heard, it brings joy to your own heart too. So, how can you make someone’s day today?

4. Be There

This one hits home for me, and I know I’m not alone. Being truly present with someone is a gift we often forget to give, especially in our busy, tech-driven world. How often do you find yourself distracted—thinking about your to-do list, or checking your phone while someone’s speaking to you?

When someone is sharing something with you, give them the gift of your full attention. Put away distractions, make eye contact, and listen—not just to respond, but to really hear them. You’ll be amazed at how much it strengthens relationships and makes the other person feel valued.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of viewing our work as just something we “have” to do, but the truth is, we get to choose how we approach each day. By choosing a positive attitude, playing a little more, making others feel special, and being present in the moment, we can create a work environment that’s not only more productive but also more meaningful.

So let’s challenge ourselves—and each other—to bring more joy and energy into what we do. The results might just surprise you.
