Stage 5: From Servant to Slave: The Final Surrender

Stage 5 is not about doing more—it’s about becoming more. It’s the shift from servant to slave, from occasional obedience to total surrender. At this stage, our focus narrows: every action, every choice, every sacrifice is aimed at furthering God’s kingdom.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 that we are not our own—we were bought with a price. In 1 Corinthians 7:22–23, he calls us to embrace our identity as Christ’s slaves. This is not a loss of freedom, but the highest form of purpose. To live as Christ’s slave is to live with clarity, humility, and respectful fear, following the example Jesus Himself modeled when He came to Earth.
Choosing the Mindset
No one can force this choice. Stage 5 consecration is intentional—it becomes who you are, not who you’re trying to be. The disciples understood this deeply. Over and over, they introduced themselves first as “slaves of Christ” (James 1:1, 2 Peter 1:1, Romans 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Titus 1:1, Jude 1:1, Acts 4:29). It was their primary identity, the lens through which they lived and led.
Paul echoes this in 1 Corinthians 9:19: though free from man, he made himself a slave so that more might be brought to Christ. That’s the paradox—true freedom comes through chosen slavery to Jesus.
Living for God’s Applause
Jesus taught in Matthew 20:26–28 that greatness in the kingdom comes by being last here on Earth. That means we may not please people—but we live for the applause of God, not man.
Think back to Stage 2, when the Bible felt dry because the focus was on self. By Stage 4 and 5, the relationship shifts—you begin to pray for what you want, but you let God decide the outcome. And you accept that outcome with your whole heart. That’s consecration: surrendering control, trusting His provision, and living with joy in His decisions.
A Challenge to Embrace
I challenge you to fully embrace that you have been purchased by Christ. Freely volunteer to be His loyal slave forever. Change your mindset to change your life. Discipline your emotions and choose wisely. What you believe aligns with what you do, and what you do aligns with how you feel.
Paul modeled this laser focus in Philippians 3:13–16: forgetting the past, pressing forward toward the goal of life with Jesus in Heaven. He knew that dwelling on what cannot be changed only drags us down. Stage 5 is about fixing your eyes on the finish line.
Grace and Works
Grace saves us in Stage 1 when we accept Jesus. But it is the works we do here on Earth that shape our reward in Heaven. Matthew 16:27 reminds us that Christ will reward each according to what they have done. It’s not about empty actions—it’s about the heart behind them.
Jesus said in Mark 8:35 that whoever desires to save their life must lose it for His sake. That means doing things we may not want to do, but knowing God is calling us to them. Stage 5 is living that calling, even when it costs us.
Giving Up the P’s
Like Stage 4, Stage 5 requires surrendering the P’s: People, Possessions, Place, Positions, and Priorities. To know Christ’s love more deeply, we must loosen our grip on what ties us to this world. And here’s the truth—giving them up only feels extreme if you’re not in Stage 5.
Stage 5 consecration is not the end—it’s the soil being tilled for what’s about to bloom. It’s the place where obedience becomes identity, and surrender becomes freedom.
If you are ready, pray with me:

“Lord, I choose to be Your slave—not out of compulsion, but out of love. I surrender my life, my choices, my future. I live for Your applause alone. May my works reflect Your grace, and may my heart beat in rhythm with Yours.”
