Momentum Game Changer

I recently went through a John Maxwell training on momentum, and it hit home. Here’s what I learned—and what I want to pass on to you:
1. Momentum Magnifies Everything
When you have it, everything feels easier. Without it, everything feels harder. Momentum makes change easier, energizes people, and whispers, “You matter.”
2. You Can’t Wait for It—You Have to Start It
Want momentum? You have to go first. You have to motivate yourself before you can motivate others.
3. The Formula:
Leader’s Actions + Culture + People’s Wins = Momentum
Actions of Leaders:
Leaders create (or kill) momentum.
Show up with S.E.R.V.E.: Service, Experience, Relationships, Values, Empowerment.
Adjust your leadership style to meet your team where they are.
Be aware and agile.
Culture of the Organization:
Momentum grows in consistent, value-driven environments.
Culture is built by what you do every day—your habits, tone, and attitude.
Use the Rule of 5—5 small actions done daily that move the mission forward.
Accomplishments of the People:
Celebrate small wins.
Lift each other up.
Success builds belief, and belief builds momentum.
4. Watch Out for These 4 People:
Breakers – Always negative.
Takers – It’s all about them.
Fakers – All show, no follow-through.
Makers – The ones who show up and move things forward.
Be a momentum maker. Be the first one to lead.
5. What If You’re on Your Own?
Lead yourself like you’d lead a team.
Stay motivated, stay consistent.
The people you start with won’t always be the ones you finish with.
6. When Leadership Above You Breaks Momentum
Lead up: ask for support or clarity.
If that doesn’t work, your team may have to create momentum from the middle.
It’s hard, but possible.
Bottom line? Momentum doesn’t magically show up. It’s created—by leadership, by consistency, by small wins.
You don’t need permission to get started. Be the spark. Lead yourself well. Watch what happens.
