The BEING Challenge: 5 Habits That Help Us Live Like Jesus

We live in a world that celebrates doing—hustling, achieving, producing. But what if the real transformation begins not in doing more, but in being more like Jesus?
I went through a Bible study called the BEING Challenge, and it laid out five habits Jesus practiced consistently. They’re simple, but they hit deep. So I wanted to share them here—because maybe you’re like me and need a little reminder that faith isn’t just about what we accomplish, but who we’re becoming.
1. Commit to Community
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
Jesus didn’t walk alone. He surrounded Himself with disciples, friends, and even those who challenged Him. 95% of our success or failure is shaped by the people we do life with.
Imagine trying to climb the stairs of growth alone—or worse, fighting your way up the down escalator. Exhausting, right? Instead, embrace the “awkward elevator closeness.” Let others in. Let them challenge, encourage, and sharpen you. Like-minded community doesn’t just support us—it propels us.

2. Study Scripture
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105
If you want to know who God is—and who you are in His eyes—open His Word. Scripture isn’t just information; it’s identity. It reminds us we’re chosen, loved, equipped, and called.
Jesus didn’t just quote Scripture to sound spiritual. He lived it. It was His anchor. His compass. His reminder of truth when everything around Him was chaos.
3. Prioritize Prayer
“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” – Luke 5:16
Jesus prayed before the miracle, during the mess, and after the moment. Prayer wasn’t optional—it was essential.
Prayer isn’t just talking to God. It’s connecting. It’s being honest, even when the answer isn’t what we hoped for. I’ve had prayers answered in ways I didn’t expect, and some that still feel unanswered. But I know He hears me. And that changes everything.
4. Make Space for Solitude
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Solitude isn’t isolation—it’s invitation. Jesus regularly stepped away from the crowds to be alone with His Father. In a world of constant noise, we need intentional quiet.
Think of it like horse blinders—not to block out the world forever, but to help you focus on what’s right in front of you.
I’ve had seasons where I was juggling work, family, ministry, and trying to be everything to everyone. And I hit a wall. But when I finally carved out space to just be—no phone, no to-do list, just me and God—I found clarity again. Not because the chaos disappeared, but because I could finally hear His whisper through it.
This doesn’t need to be huge blocks of time, but enough to center you so you can focus on what really matters.
5. Choose Church
“Let us not give up meeting together… but encourage one another.” – Hebrews 10:25
Not just when it’s convenient. Not just when you feel like it.
Jesus valued gathering with others. He showed up. He taught. He listened. He worshipped.
Church isn’t perfect, but it’s powerful. It’s where we hear truth, share burdens, and get reminded that we’re not alone.
So if you’ve been drifting, I get it. But maybe this is your nudge to come back. To plug in. To let community and consistency shape you again.
So Now What?
These five habits aren’t about being “good enough.” They’re about being with Jesus.
So this week, I’m asking myself:
Who am I surrounding myself with?
Am I making space to hear from God?
What’s shaping me—culture or Christ?
And I want to challenge you to do the same. Not in a guilt-trip kind of way. But in a “let’s grow together” kind of way.
Pick one habit. Lean in. Let God meet you there.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be present.
